Description

Here is where you can spend a few days relaxing and recharging energy levels, or make your escape from hemmed in urban living for a weekend away from the madding crowd in the wide-open spaces of the 'Big Sky' Maniototo Plains.

Just one and a half hours from Dunedin, a little over two hours from Queenstown or Wanaka, right alongside the Otago Central Rail Trail and only five minutes stroll from Waipiata village and Hotel, Komako Peonies & Cottage Garden Accommodation is your opportunity to live the Central Otago slogan... A World Of Difference. After all, it's not every day your choice of accommodation was once part of a railway station, the original farm tool shed and a former Waipiata bank building.

Aside from accommodating you, hosts Heather and Grant offer evening meals as either a gourmet barbecue or hearty roast with a choice of salads and vegetables and a dessert to finish. There are also pub and restaurant meals close by at Waipiata and not so very far away at Ranfurly and Naseby. Right on the Rail Trail and pretty much on the 100km mark from the start-finish at Clyde, Komako also offers grazing for those doing the trail on horseback.

Heather and Grant gave us such a warm welcome and looked after us the night we stayed during the rail trail. Arriving cold and covered in mud we cleaned-up, warmed up and washed and dried our clothes and gear in front of their roaring fire. There was snow on the ground but we were cosy and comfortable in our room. We'd like to go back just to relax and enjoy their hospitality. There was a delicious breakfast available in the morning which kept us going to our next stop at Hyde. Thank you!
