Description

Aptly named after the prolific native grasses that dominate the Central Otago Landscape, Tussock Lodge was built in 2009 to cater for the growing demand for quality accommodation along the world famous Otago Central Rail Trail. Its' unique design allows guests to either reserve the entire lodge for a luxurious vacation home, or book a single ensuite bedroom with private entrances and access to the gourmet kitchen and entertainment areas.

We are located a short walk from the historic township of Waipiata, in the seclusion of Central Otago. We can tailor to any requests to suit to your personal or travel needs. Our parking area is more than able to accommodate the largest vehicles. Be sure to bring your binoculars or telescope: far away from any city lights the night sky is spectacular!!

The Taieri river is a short walk away. Wildlife abounds in this secluded area and it’s easy to spot hawks, pigs, deer, goats, rabbits, skinks, geckos, owls and the rare blue herons. Local fish include plentiful trout and eels.

Tussock Lodge is situated 150 metres from the Otago Central Rail Trail and 500 metres from the local hotel, which serves great country meals with a relaxing friendly atmosphere.

Your enjoyment during your stay with us is paramount. We will do everything we can to make your stay enjoyable.
