A visit to Otago is not complete without a trip on the Taieri Gorge Railway - one of the world's great train trips.
The train can take passengers in either direction and carries bikes for a small charge. The train goes to Pukerangi daily and to Middlemarch on Fridays and Sundays during the summer season (1 October - 30 April).
Begin or end your rail trail experience in style on the famous Taieri Gorge Railway. Sit back and relax as the train negotiates this exhilarating narrow river gorge with cliff hugging tunnels and viaducts, which soar high above the river. Take a photo on the open air platforms or wait until the train stops for a scenic photo opportunity.
With live commentary, friendly well informed staff, sight seeing stops, modern and traditional carriages and a fully licenced snack bar, this is an all weather experience not to be missed.
