Description

If you are wanting to do a ride or day tramps or just on an adventure in this stunning part of the world; then you really must explore and do some or all of the original Otago Rail Trail.  It is pretty much off road and the landscapes are raw, real and totally rejuvenating... this is the heart of what NZ is all about.  There is something for everyone in the family or if you are a solo traveler you will feel self, welcomed and invigorated.  Don't worry in this place you will never be alone.
Sutton lays on the Taieri River; head for a picnic and a dip. To the east is the amazing Rock and Pillar Range (some Lord of the Rings was filmed there) and the "Crater" is approx. 1450m. Visit Sutton Salt Lake, an 8ha reserve; NZ's only inland salt lake with gorgeous geckos. Middlemarch of course is close by to go for a meal in the hotel, cafe, see the museum etc. All just 5kms away you can ride your bike or ask us for a shuttle (small fee may apply) and then come back to your sanctuary.

The property has a full kitchen, outdoor bbq area, dining room and lounge to share, separate men's and women's bathrooms with adequate facilities.

This accommodation comes with a twist we are hoping to offer something a little bit different that is far enough away from everything to have the benefits of total relaxation and the night skies above as well as close enough to amenities.  Come and join in or not there has been plenty of laughter, and joy in this land and the old buildings...it is in the soul of this place and has been for over 123 years; soon it will be ready for its next chapter welcoming guests from November 2021.
The main house with 4-5 bedrooms is set up with bunks (photos coming please be patient due to being stuck in covid).  During Summer if all goes well we  hope to offer activities and classes in the school hall on site such as yoga/relaxation classes, human library stories etc

$54 p/p p/n - Price includes linen, and a very basic continental breakfast. of tea/coffee, toast, cereal/fruit salad. There are lots of spaces and places under a tree to read a book or relax in the sun.

We are a quiet campsite and no loud or unsociable behaviour will be tolerated. We are about nature, connecting with other nature lovers and grabbing a blanket watching the fire pit (bush tv) at night and lying back and being in the moment and awe the night skies after a day of adventure in the great outdoors.

Star Gazers is located on State Highway 87 (S87) and we are north of Dunedin only about 55 minutes (74km) from Dunedin airport. It is very easy to find. This is a very quiet highway and we are well back from the road.

MOTOR HOMES... We also have a separate field set up for fully self contained motor homes this is a separate area to the accommodation and are non powered site but a great way to be in a quieter less busy place (up to 15 motor homes catered for).  $25 per night up to 2 persons 10% discount for NZMCA members apply.
Great for single travellers as well as larger groups we can accommodate around 20 people.  We also encourage woofas to stay and help out around the place and if you are looking for longer term accommodation ask me about that too.
Hope to see you soon at the old school yards; to make your own memories...
