The landscape is raw, real and totally rejuvenating... this is the heart of what NZ is all about. Here time has stood still and it is a place to connect by disconnecting to have yarns with each other. There is something for everyone in the area and you will leave feeling invigorated.
Sutton lays on the Taieri River; head for a picnic and a dip. To the east is the amazing Rock and Pillar Range (some Lord of the Rings was filmed there) and the "Crater" is approx. 1450m. Visit Sutton Salt Lake, an 8ha reserve; NZ's only inland salt lake with gorgeous geckos. Middlemarch of course is close by to go for a meal in the hotel, cafe, see the museum etc about 6kms away.
FACILITIES
The property has a full kitchen, dining room and lounge to share, men's and women's bathrooms with adequate facilities and large front verandah, adventure playground (children MUST be supervised at all times). There is a good size hall on site if you are planning a group retreat or small celebration, workshop - think of writers they would love it here. Often used for school groups to stay now it is open to the public again.
This accommodation offers something a little bit different where a group or family has a chance to have their own get together that is far enough away from everything to have the benefits of total relaxation and the night skies above as well as close enough to amenities of Middlemarch (just 6 kms away).
Breakfasts, lunches and dinners can be provided at very reasonable rates from our cook so get a picnic packed to explore. Otherwise bring your own supplies or eat in Middlemarch (hotel and cafe). The place has history; there has been plenty of laughter, and joy in this land and the old buildings...it is in the soul of this place and has been for over 123 years; now it is ready to welcome you.
The main house with 4 bedrooms is set up with single beds and bunks and another two single rooms in the sleep out and a hall with a bunk room.
There are lots of spaces and places under a tree to read a book or relax in the sun.
